TriMet's Biggest Service Cuts in Years Take Effect August 23

TriMet is making some of its biggest service cuts in years starting August 23, affecting bus and MAX riders across Beaverton, Gresham, Lake Oswego, West Linn, and the Clackamas area alike.

The most visible change hits the MAX Green Line, which will no longer run downtown to Portland State University — service will instead run only between Clackamas Town Center and the Gateway Transit Center. Two bus lines are being eliminated outright: Line 82 (South Gresham) and Line 153 (Stafford/Salamo), both cited for low ridership.

Riders in Lake Oswego, Tigard, Tualatin, and West Linn will see lines 37 and 96 combined, with Line 96 rerouted off I-5 to serve SW Boones Ferry Road; lines 38 and 97 are being folded into a new 97-Tualatin-Sherwood/Kruse Way route. In Beaverton, Line 76 is being extended to replace Line 20 service between the Beaverton and Sunset transit centers, but loses its run between Tualatin/West Linn and Oregon City. The Clackamas area sees the most consolidation, with lines 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 40, and 79 combined or redistributed, and Line 32 eliminated entirely.

TriMet says more service cuts are already being planned for next year. Riders who depend on any of the affected lines should check TriMet's trip planner before August 23 to confirm their new route.
